Paramapoojya jagadhguru Padmabhushana Sri Sri Sri Balagangadharanatha Mahaswamiji was born to Sri Chikkalinge Gowda and Smt. Boramma as Gangadharaiah. He had five siblings two brothers and three sisters. Sri Gangadharaiah completed his graduation in Science from Government Arts & Science College, Bengaluru. Motivated by the desire to serve God and the people, he chose the spiritual way of life.Initiated at the age of nineteen, Sri Swamiji spent his initial years mastering the Vedas and other sacred texts under the tutelage of his Guru Sri Ramanandanatha Swamiji.
Sri Sri Sri Balagangadharanatha Mahaswamiji took over as the 71st Pontiff of the ancient NathaCenter of Worship, Sri Adichunchanagiri Math, on 24th of September 1974 at the age of 30. He comes in the line of Sri Bhakthanatha Swamiji, Sri Chandrashekaranatha Swamiji and Sri Ramanandanatha Swamiji of the 'Natha Tradition' (Parampara).
Sri Sri Sri Balagangadharanatha Swamiji's mission is to establish global peace and universal brotherhood through spiritual, educational, healthcare, environmental, social and moral & cultural activities
Spiritual Activities
Balagangadharanatha Swamiji advocates that the shortest route to attain realization is absolute devotion to God. In the Educational Institutions of Sri Math, Prayer, Meditation, Yoga and Preaching are made compulsory, to imbibe the spirituality in the young minds.
Educational Activities
His Holiness initiated Sri Adichunchanagiri Shikshana Trust with the main motto of imparting knowledge. The trust runs more than four hundred Educational Institutions across the country with more than seventy thousand students benefiting from Swamiji,s grace.
Healthcare Activities
Hospitals were opened to render services like free accommodations, investigations, treatment and food. Specially trained healthcare volunteers visit villages every day, educate, guide the patients and bring suffering patients to the hospital, get them treated and send them back to their places. Sri Math, through the hospitals, organizes many Health Camps for the benefit of the poor.
ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES
With the association of Karnataka Government and different religious leaders, His Holiness formed a ''Karnataka Vanasamvardhana Trust'', to improve the forest wealth by planting 5 crore saplings. Sri Math has also undertaken de-silting of water tanks as a part of ''Jalasamvardhana''to increase the storage capacity of tanks and improve underground water level.
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
His Holiness introduced Mass Marriage System to reduce the burden among economically deprived sections of the society. Watch Assembly Unit was established in Bangalore, where deserted women community is provided free food, accommodation and wages. Many cattle sheds are opened to shelter and protects the cows.
Sir Math Conducts Character Building Programmers, Morality Developmental Seminars, and Self-Introspection Lessons. Personality Development, Morality Development, Leadership Training Campus and Value-based Cultural Programmers are held annually, where about three thousand boys and four thousand girls are trained during summer vacations.
